Who are we?
The partners in Tai Chi Works are Tony Brown and Gwenan Evans.
Between them they have been practising Tai Chi for over 20 years, and are both registered with the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts as Tai Chi Instructors. They have taught Tai Chi classes to students from a wide range of backgrounds and physical abilities in many different settings, including the adult education sector, health clubs and corporate in-service training. They have a sound understanding of the use and application of Tai Chi as a health art and personal experience of the many health benefits of regular practice. They also have experience of management in both public and private sectors.
Tai Chi Works is based in Cardiff, and operates throughout Wales and the South West of England. All services and workshops are available in either English or Welsh.
Gwenan:
“Having been a Yoga practitioner for over 20 years, I first encountered Tai Chi eight years ago during a trip to China, where I was fascinated by the sight of so many people performing the slow meditative movements together. I found a class at my health club in Cardiff and have been hooked ever since!
For me, Tai Chi's slow continuous movement with co-ordinated breathing and mental focus is far and away the best all-round exercise system I have ever practised. It keeps muscles toned and supple, boosts energy levels and increases general wellbeing.
As I have learnt more through doing and reading about Tai Chi, I have become even more fascinated with Eastern perceptions of the way the body works, and the holistic view of health and disease, so much so that I am now training to be a Chinese medicine practitioner at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading.”
Tony:
“From the first time I saw Tai Chi being performed, I knew it was something I wanted to experience and explore. And in the years since then, I have discovered that the experience gets better and better, and that there is a huge depth to the system to discover.
"Bringing Tai Chi to people through the teaching I have done has been extremely rewarding, especially when those moments of illumination brighten the students' eyes. For me, Tai Chi is about learning to understand your own body, and to gain what might be called a ‘soft control' over it; not forcing it to obey, but finding that balance between effort and relaxation, and the connection between thought and action.
"We all live in frantic times, and without Tai Chi I would find it more difficult to stay focussed and relatively stress-free.”
